By playing in an ensemble, children develop many important skills, such as:
- Playing in timeJatherinia composes music exclusively for young people of any ability (Grade 0 - 8+), to be workshopped and performed at any primary, secondary, music school, or music course concert / event.
Many school ensembles and other musical groups struggle to find suitable ensemble music, as they often have unusual groups of instruments to cater for. Jatherinia have an existing collection of original music for sale, which can be adapted on request to suit an ensemble's needs, taking into account the instrumentation, and the standard of playing. They also accept commissions to write specific pieces, for any combination of instruments and voices.
Jatherinia's style incorporates elements of popular and folk music, combined with a more traditionally classical approach, producing music that young people find easily accessible and enjoyable to play.
Jenny Lane and Catherine Wilson both completed their BMus (hons) at Huddersfield University in 2000, specialising in composition. Catherine has since been awarded an MA in music from Huddersfied University, in 2005.
Jenny and Catherine have played in numerous bands and ensembles, where their compositional and arranging skills have been used and developed. They have also composed a wide range of music over the years, for solo instruments, workshops, schools, theatre and choirs.
This practical application has resulted in the desire to provide music composed for a specific purpose. Their aim is to encourage and enable more young people to be part of an ensemble, and therefore increase their chance of performing on stage within a group setting, as well as to develop the teamwork skills that are essential within an ensemble. Whether playing in duets & trios, or in much larger groups, making music with others is a powerful form of communication.
Jatherinia is based in the United Kingdom.
